CBCT Scanning Information

What is CBCT Scanning

The original CT scanners rotated many times around patients building up 'slices' of information. This gave very accurate images of those slices which the computer then stitched together to give a composite three-dimensional image. However, high amounts of radiation were needed to build up the large numbers of slices necessary for the composite picture.

With Cone-beam CT scanning, the shape of the x-ray beam allows a composite picture to be built from just one revolution (or slice) of the CT machine. This allows a very accurate three-dimensional picture using a fraction of the radiation. This makes Cone-beam scanning much safer for patients.
